Poe lived an unhappy life, when people came in contact with this â€Å"saddest strangest figure in American literary history† they were aware of some of his qualities (Fagin 1). Edgar Allan’s has a complex personality. Poe excelled at creating Gothic and Horror stories. Poe works with realism in â€Å"The Cask of Amontillado† (Buranelli 19). Poe writes about himself in his own stories as a reoccurring character creating an autobiographical element (Buranelli 18). He is pictured as appearing in disguise as his melancholic, neurasthenic, hallucinated and mad protagonists: Roderick Usher, Egaeus, William Wilson, Cornelius Wyatt, Hop Frog, Metzengerstein, and Montresor (Buranelli 18). Poe spent his life in a delusion of pride misery and sickness, due to his escapism of reality through alcohol, poverty, and dependence on women. This is exemplified by his own life experiences , in his stories and the characters he created, I will use to analyze how it helps readers to get a better understanding of his literary work. Firstly, his father David Poe knew he had to beg for money but he could not humiliate himself so he goes to the bar had a few drinks to boost his confidence. Its a good idea to stay clear of phrases such as I think, or in my opinion, unless youre evaluating a claim. However, there is no apparent reason for not saying l will first define the key terms. Using the first person in this way will make a text more approachable. Moreover, using phrases starting with I, you avoid using the passive voice which many find more difficult to read. Having said this, some markers still consider it preferable not to use the first person. Should your tutor or marker be one of them, you may want to play it safe.
